How to compare grid connection alternatives
Use the Substation Search solution to compare infrastructure, capacity margins and connected projects before undertaking further studies.
The Substation Search solution helps you select points of interest and organize an initial comparison. In this example, we will search for substations within the same region.
1. Select the state and status
Use the State and Status filters to narrow your search. You can also search by the substation name or its principal agent.
Start with a few criteria and refine the results according to your objective.
2. Choose the capacity margin year
In the Capacity Margin Year filter, select the period of interest. In the results, review the margins shown by voltage level and year.
Compare information from the same period and check its references. The margin reflects the scenario studied and does not guarantee grid access.
3. Examine connected projects
Use Connected Projects’ Energy Source and its associated status filter to identify substations linked to the types of developments you want to investigate.
Also review the authorized project capacity by voltage level. These data help put each alternative into context, but should not be interpreted as capacity actually used or available.
4. Consult the details and location
Open the information for the selected substations to investigate further. Review the available data on margins, infrastructure and associated developments.
Use the map view to examine their position relative to your project. Geographic distance is an initial reference; it does not determine the connection route or cost.
5. Organize the comparison
Record the same criteria for each alternative:
Location and status.
Voltage level and infrastructure.
Capacity margin, year and reference.
Authorized project capacity and connected projects.
Information requiring confirmation.
Use this shortlist to decide where to focus further technical studies, connection costs, TUST transmission charges and timelines. The largest margin alone does not determine the best alternative.
