Explore the solution

Choosing a connection point involves understanding the existing infrastructure, connected developments and regional grid conditions. ePowerBay's Basic Grid Substations solution brings this information together, taking you from a substation search to a detailed analysis of each facility.

The tool supports initial assessments of generation, storage and electricity consumption opportunities, as well as research into transmission grid expansion.

Find substations of interest

On the search page, look up the substation name or main agent. Combine these filters to narrow your results:

  • Status: select the facility's stage.

  • State: focus on your target region.

  • Margin Year: choose the reference year for the displayed margins.

  • Generation source and status of connected projects: find substations associated with the development profile you need.

  • Locational Bonus: refine the selection using this information.

The list lets you compare location, agent, status, margins by voltage and the authorized capacity of connected projects. Adjust the columns to highlight relevant information and explore the distribution on the map.

Export search results

After applying the filters, use the options to export search results or the current page. You can then compare substations and incorporate the data into your analyses and reports.

The search also offers an ONS Curtailment export, using available records for plants or generating groups associated with the selected substations. This helps you investigate generation and restrictions recorded by ONS, Brazil's national power system operator.

Open a substation and explore its infrastructure

Selecting a substation opens a page organized into different areas of analysis.

In General, review the responsible agent, municipality, state, status and commissioning date. The Transmission Lines, Transformers and Reactive Compensation tables describe equipment associated with the facility, including voltages, capacities and responsible companies, where data is available.

This provides context on the substation's role in the grid and the characteristics to consider before undertaking a more detailed connection study.

Compare tariffs and generation evacuation margins

In Tariffs, review transmission charges for generation and consumption, organized by tariff cycle with the corresponding regulatory references. For consumption, also consider the displayed peak and off-peak charges.

Under Margin Technical Notes, examine auction data and the remaining capacity for generation evacuation made available by ONS. Check the year, voltage level, calculation date and accompanying notes for each result.

The Evacuation Margin by Year chart makes it easier to compare periods. Use Calculation Date to select the reference you wish to analyze.

Margins are references for an initial assessment and do not guarantee grid access. Busbar, area and subarea figures should not be added together as independent capacities.

Explore connected and nearby projects

In Connected Projects, review developments associated with the substation, including generation source, status, capacity and connection voltage. Open a project to explore its characteristics in more detail.

In Nearby Projects, adjust the search radius and explore surrounding developments. Combine source and status filters to identify projects in operation or development, and view their distribution on the map.

Geographical proximity does not mean a development is connected to the substation being analyzed.

Track works and analyze curtailment

Works lists interventions associated with the facility, including descriptions, schedules and progress, where information is available. These records help contextualize potential changes in infrastructure.

In Curtailment, select the year to review curtailed generation by month and restriction reason for plants or generating groups associated with the substation.

In addition to viewing charts, use the curtailment data export tools to work with the records in your own analyses, compare periods and prepare reports. Consider data coverage and the available time period when interpreting results.

Organize your comparison

To assess alternatives within a state, start by filtering the region and margin year. Select several substations and compare:

  • Infrastructure and voltage levels.

  • Margins and their reference dates.

  • Applicable tariffs.

  • Connected projects and surrounding developments.

  • Planned works and restriction history.

Together, these data help you shortlist connection points and direct subsequent studies with more context.
